Wet rooms are the current preferred type of bathroom for modern contemporary style. It provides spacious space and openness especially if you have a smaller bathroom and gives a bathroom the luxurious and stylish feel without compromising functionality.

Another Distinct characteristic of wet rooms aside from the level flooring of the bathroom is that the walls and floors are fully tiled to make it waterproof. Which comes to the questions what tiles are best suited for wet rooms? Different tiles have different quality, looks and they are made out of different materials.

The best materials are the non-porous types of tiles like these are:

Wet Room Tiles
Wet Room Tiles

Porcelain or Ceramic

These are great choice and it is reasonably priced. They come in different colors, texture and style. It is also best to use non-slip tiles for the floors of wet room to minimize accidental fall. When using porcelain or ceramic, you need to hire professional installer since porcelain tiles can easily shatter. Make sure that the grout lines between tiles are about 1/8 inch to prevent water seepage that can ruin the subfloor.

Glass

The same as the porcelain or ceramic it is a non-porous material with different colors, and mostly mosaic designs. This material is not advisable to be use as tile flooring but in the wall it can give a great accent. It also needs professional help in installing glass tiles and it requires non-sanded grout material. The price is more expensive than porcelain or ceramic.

For the natural feel, you can use natural stones but they are porous in nature and will need resealing from time to time to make sure that no water can penetrate the tile wall or flooring that can damage the house.

Slate

It is natural stone that is durable and slip resistant with many colors and texture. You can use this to wet rooms that have different style like rustic or contemporary designs. But since this material is porous in nature it needs re-sealing every 2 to 3 months to protect the subfloors from getting moisture which will lead to rotting wood or plaster that can compromise the integrity of the house.

Marble

It is a beautiful natural stone that adds luxury and elegance to any wet room, but this is best use on the wall of the wet room than on the floor since it can be slippery when it is wet. As a natural stone, this is also porous which needs re-sealing every 2 to 3 months.

Granite

It is one of the hardest and durable natural stone that comes in many colors, pattern and texture. This natural stone can give distinct classic elegance in your wet rooms. Depending how it was finished, granite can be stain and scratch resistant. And it is less porous than the other. But since it is still a natural stone, it still needs to be resealed from time to time at least 3 to 6 months.

Aside from tiles, some uses vinyl that needs to be welded on the floor and wall or uses Corian or other brand of synthetic materials which is made of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate.

Corian

This is a synthetic material that is sleek, hygienic, non-porous surface. Using sheet Corian which can be specially cut to fit the walls and floor, it will leave no joint or grout lines. It is strong and watertight. The cost of installing Corian is much higher than regular tiles.

How to Install a Wet Room

Whatever tiles you choose, you should make sure that the floor tiles that you will install should be a non-slip surface. Safety is one aspect you need to consider when choosing the floor covering of wet rooms. This is most especially important because it will make up for all your bathroom or wet room floor. Good luck on finding the best tiles for your wet room. Do you still want more tips?
